Frequently Asked Questions

Can you provide me with a quote for a custom cake cost?

Absolutely! But to save us all time it’s best to confirm availability first by providing as much of the following information up front as possible:

  • date required,

  • number of guests the cake needs to serve,

  • flavours,

  • colours and other customisation

  • pictures of any cakes which may have inspired you.

 

This helps me to start working on your quote/design straight away rather than emailing back and forth for more information. 

Do you make cupcakes?

Piece of Cake by Clare no longer makes cupcakes for sale.  I prefer to focus more on the cakes I love to make.

 

Do you cater for allergies?

No, I work in a kitchen that processes allergenic ingredients and do not have a specific allergen free zone nor separate equipment.

 

Do you offer delivery?

I do not offer delivery.  Collection is from my home in North Ascot.  Collection times are to be arranged but are generally in the evening.  I try to be as accommodating as I can with collection times in the evenings and at the weekend but please be aware my business hours don't include weekends.  Day time collections are also available Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. This is something we can discuss before any order is placed to ensure collection timings work for us both. 

 

Can I order a number shaped cake or a carved cake?

I don’t provide number shaped or carved cakes.  The cakes I produce are either round or square finished with a buttercream or a fondant covering and decorated to match your requirements or the theme of your event. 

 

How does the booking process work?

The quote you receive will be on an order form.  Within the form there is a description section detailing the agreed design of the cake.  I try to capture as much information here as possible as this is what I will use as a reference when I make your cake.  I am not perfect and can make mistakes so please do check this thoroughly to ensure I have captured your requirements correctly. 

 

How long does my quote last for?

Your quote is valid for 7 days at which point you will need to contact me for an updated quote and to make sure my availability hasn’t changed.

 

When is my booking confirmed?

Your booking is not 100% confirmed in my diary until I receive the booking fee from you.  By paying a booking fee to secure your booking, you are confirming your acceptance of our Terms and Conditions and details set out on the Order Confirmation.

 

Try not to leave it too long after receiving your quote in case the slot is taken by someone else.  I am sending out quotes almost daily so at any time the slot could be filled by someone paying their booking fee before you.  I have no choice but to work on a “first come first served basis” as sometimes I don’t hear anything after sending out a quote.

 

Can I make changes to the design after I’ve paid the booking fee?

I will be as accommodating as reasonably possible should you wish to amend your order which you must provide to me in writing. In the case of alterations, a new order confirmation will be issued detailing the changes and the new cost. Alterations are not confirmed until a new order confirmation has been issued. 

 

Will you hold a booking slot for me?

I’m afraid I am unable to hold slots without a booking fee.  I send out many quotes and sometimes never hear from that person again, even when they have said they are about to send payment.  If I haven’t received your booking fee before someone else books the slot or if I haven’t received full payment before the date the final balance is required, then I will not be able to fulfil your order. 

 

When is the final balance due?

The date for the final balance will be on the order form but is usually 2 weeks before the collection date.  I will send out a reminder but please note, I won’t start working on your order until the final balance is received.  Please note that if there is a delay in final payment I cannot be held responsible if this means I am then unable to purchase stock in time or have enough time to complete the design fully.

 

Will you take on a last minute cake? 

I can no longer take on last minute bookings.  It takes time from design to securing the booking to ordering the stock required.  Stock to my suppliers is being delayed so therefore I need even more notice in order to get the required stock in time for your order.  If the design is not agreed before 2 weeks then I won’t be able to take on your order.  However if you do leave it this late to book I may no longer have space available or not able to obtain stock in time.
