Frequently Asked Questions

​Can you provide me with a quote for a custom cake cost?

Absolutely! But to save us all time it’s best to confirm availability first by providing as much of the following information up front as possible:

• date required,

• number of guests the cake needs to serve,

• flavours (vanilla, chocolate fudge, lemon, carrot, red velvet or coffee),

• colours and other customisation

• pictures of any cakes which may have inspired you.

 

This helps me to start working on your quote/design straight away, saving us both time. ​

Do you make cupcakes?

​

Piece of Cake by Clare no longer offers cupcakes. I have decided to focus on creating the celebration cakes and decorating classes that I truly enjoy making.

Do you cater for allergies?

​

I work in a kitchen where ingredients containing allergens are used, and I do not have a separate allergen-free area or dedicated equipment.

​

For this reason, I am unable to provide allergen-free cakes or guarantee that cakes are suitable for those with allergies, intolerances or coeliac disease.

​

If you have any dietary concerns, please contact me before placing an order so I can discuss the ingredients used in your chosen cake.

Do you offer delivery?

I do not offer delivery. All cakes are collected from my home in North Ascot.

​

Collection times are arranged in advance and are generally available on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during the day, or by agreement in the evening.

​

Please note that I do not offer regular weekend collections as weekends are outside my usual working hours.

​

​​Can I order a number shaped cake or a carved cake?

I do not offer number cakes, shaped cakes or carved cakes.

​

The cakes I create are round or square and can be finished with either buttercream or fondant, decorated to match your chosen colours, theme or occasion.

​

How does the booking process work?

Once your cake details have been agreed, I will send an order confirmation which includes the agreed design, flavours, size, collection date and price.

​

Please check the details carefully and let me know if anything needs changing before payment is made, as this information will be used as the reference for creating your cake.

​

Your booking is only confirmed once full payment has been received.

​

How long does my quote last for?

Quotes are valid for 7 days. After this time, please contact me again to confirm availability and receive an updated quote if required.

When is my booking confirmed?

Your booking is not confirmed in my diary until the booking fee has been received.

​

Payment confirms your acceptance of my Terms and Conditions and the details outlined in your order confirmation.

​

I work on a first come, first served basis, and dates can become unavailable while quotes are being considered. To avoid disappointment, please don’t delay if you would like to secure your date.

​

Can I make changes to the design after I’ve paid the booking fee?

​

I will always do my best to accommodate changes, but any amendments must be requested in writing.

​

If changes affect the design, ingredients, size or price, an updated order confirmation will be issued. Changes are only confirmed once the revised order confirmation has been agreed.

​

Will you hold a booking slot for me?

Unfortunately, I am unable to hold dates without payment.

​

I receive regular enquiries and, as bookings are confirmed on a first come, first served basis, your date may become unavailable if another customer confirms their booking first.

 

When is the final balance due?

Full payment is usually required two weeks before the collection date.  The payment date will be shown on your order confirmation.

I will send a reminder around the due date, but please note that I cannot begin preparing your cake until payment has been received.

​

Will you take on a last minute cake? 

Unfortunately, I am unable to accommodate last-minute cake orders.

​

Creating a bespoke cake involves time for design planning, ordering ingredients and materials, and preparing the cake itself. I recommend enquiring at least three weeks in advance, although popular dates may be booked earlier.

Can you recommend another baker?

​If I am unavailable or your cake request is not something I offer, I’m happy to point you in the right direction. While I don’t know every baker in the area to recommend, I can offer a few tips to help you find a legitimate and reputable baker nearby. A quick Google search is a great place to start, but here’s what to look for:

✅ Ask for recommendations – friends, family, or local community groups can be a great source of trusted suggestions.

✅ Check they’re registered and have a food hygiene rating – this shows they meet local authority and Food Standards Agency requirements.

✅ They should have at least a Level 2 Food Safety certificate – a good indicator they understand safe food handling.

✅ Look for a website – not every baker will have one, but it can be a good sign they’re serious about their business and have been established for a while.

✅ Browse their social media – see their most recent work to make sure the style, finish, and quality match what you’re after.

✅ Ask about allergens – if allergens are a concern, a good baker should be able to answer questions and provide labelling to show what allergens are included. Keep in mind that most bakers bake at home, so their kitchen is highly likely not to be completely allergen-free, although processes should be in place to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Taking a little time now means your cake will be just as perfect as your celebration!
