Frequently Asked Questions

Can you provide me with a quote for a custom cake cost?

Absolutely! But to save us all time it’s best to confirm availability first by providing as much of the following information up front as possible:

  • date required,

  • number of guests the cake needs to serve,

  • flavours (vanilla, chocolate fudge, lemon, carrot, red velvet or coffee),

  • colours and other customisation

  • pictures of any cakes which may have inspired you.

 

This helps me to start working on your quote/design straight away, saving us both time. 

Do you make cupcakes?

Piece of Cake by Clare no longer offers cupcakes for sale. I've decided to focus on creating the cakes I truly love to make. Thank you for your understanding and continued support!

 

Do you cater for allergies?

Please note that I work in a kitchen that processes allergenic ingredients, and I do not have a specific allergen-free zone or separate equipment. As a result, I'm unable to accommodate requests for allergen-free cakes. If you have a food allergy, intolerance, or coeliac disease, please discuss the ingredients with me before placing your order.

 

Do you offer delivery?

Please note that I do not offer delivery. All orders are to be collected from my home in North Ascot. Collection times are generally in the evening, and while I strive to be as accommodating as possible with evening and weekend collections, my official business hours do not include weekends. Daytime collections are also available on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. We can discuss and arrange a suitable collection time before finalising your order to ensure it works for both of us. 

 

Can I order a number shaped cake or a carved cake?

I do not offer number, shaped or carved cakes. The cakes I create are either round or square, finished with buttercream or fondant and decorated to match your requirements or the theme of your event.

 

How does the booking process work?

The quote you receive will be provided on an order form, which includes a description section detailing the agreed-upon design of your cake. I strive to capture as much information as possible in this section, as it serves as my reference when creating your cake. However, I'm not perfect and can make mistakes, so please review this section thoroughly to ensure I have accurately captured your requirements.

 

How long does my quote last for?

Your quote is valid for 7 days. After that period, please contact me for an updated quote and to confirm my availability.

 

When is my booking confirmed?

Your booking is not fully confirmed in my diary until I receive the booking fee. By paying this fee, you confirm your acceptance of our Terms and Conditions and the details outlined in the Order Confirmation.

Please keep in mind that I work on a "first come, first served" basis. I send out quotes regularly, and slots can be filled quickly if someone else pays their booking fee before you. To avoid missing out, try not to delay after receiving your quote.

Can I make changes to the design after I’ve paid the booking fee?

I will do my best to accommodate any changes to your order, which must be provided to me in writing. For any alterations, a new order confirmation will be issued, detailing the changes and any updated costs. Please note that alterations are not confirmed until the new order confirmation has been issued.

 

Will you hold a booking slot for me?

I'm unable to hold slots without a booking fee. I send out many quotes and sometimes never hear back, even after being told payment is on the way. If I haven't received your booking fee before someone else books the slot, or if I haven't received full payment by the final balance due date, I won't be able to fulfill your order.

 

When is the final balance due?

The date for the final balance will be specified on the order form but is usually 2 weeks before the collection date. I will send a reminder, but please note that I will not begin work on your order until the final balance is received. If there is a delay in final payment, I cannot be held responsible if it affects stock procurement or the completion of the design.

 

Will you take on a last minute cake? 

I can no longer accommodate last minute bookings. The process from design to securing the booking and ordering stock requires time, and delays with stock from suppliers mean I need even more notice. If the design is not agreed upon at least 2 weeks in advance, I won’t be able to take on your order. Please be aware that booking late may also result in limited availability or difficulty obtaining stock in time.
